Sunny days seen from afar ...

What a beautiful weekend! Unfortunately, because I'd been feeling so poorly last week, it meant that I had to spend most of it indoors catching up on things ... But how lovely it was to wake up every morning to beautiful sunshine streaming in through the bedroom curtains, wonderful. M and I took our morning cuppas into the garden and sat in the silence and enjoyed the feel of that sun on our faces.

To hear the birds singing and see the new shoots appearing in the ground is just a joy. I think early mornings in the garden in Spring and summer must be some of my favourite times.

It's good isn't it to walk round your garden and make plans, such an optimistic feeling. So, still in my pjs, I scattered the lovely hollyhock seeds I'd been sent by Niki.

M took some photos of the beautiful hellebores and Little Sister came bounding outside still in her pjs and enjoying the feel of the grass on her bare feet for the first time this year - whilst inside the house a teenager was still sleeping!

Later on in the morning Mr Roses took the rosebuds to the woods whilst I went off to the post office. I seemed to have experienced a lot of the past weekend vicariously and would love to tell you tales of the first sightings of blossom and frogs doing what comes naturally this time of the year but instead I shall show you some of M's photos and tell you that they came back from the woods, refreshed and full of tales of froggy doings ...

So the weekend seemed to pass in front of the sewing machine with quick little forays into the garden for cuppas and a browse of the newspapers. It was wonderful to see the girls back on the hammock and pink cheeks appearing again on their faces.

Yesterday I did sew some seeds, but unfortunately it was not the "sowing" I would have liked to have done. Piles and piles of these were sewn ready to be sent to a shop, What a great feeling to have finished them on time! It did almost make up for not being able to get outside and enjoy the Spring sunshine.
I wasn't the only one around here who hadn't been out in the sunshine this weekend. Look who I spotted in our bed on Saturday afternoon:

It seems I'm not the only one who likes candy striped sheets!

Another beautiful morning today and whilst tidying up a few minutes ago I found this piece of kindling Little sister had left for me:

... the best kind of sunshine.

Oh Kim, what a lovely post.
As a child I was always outside somewhere if the sun was out. Infact cannot remember playing indoors very much at all.
I love the little framed flowers and the candy stripe sheets! all so reminiscent of my childhood.
What a wonderful piece of kindling, something I would treasure forever.
Have a lovely week Kim.

Sorry you've been poorly Kim, although that little present must have made up for it a little. Lovely tales of Spring here - if the frogs are up to what I think they're up to then it's definitely here!

What a cheerful post! So happy to hear you're on the mend and enjoying the sunshine. I can't wait to see Niki's hollyhock seeds in bloom in the Raggeds' Garden. =)))) My mom always grew hollyhocks in our yard when I was a little girl, and I loved them so much (they were MUCH taller than I was; it was like playing "Jack and the BeanStalk)!

doesn't it make you feel happy seeing things bursting back to life - looking forward to seeing your Hollyhocks... the ducks here are in the same frame of mind as your frogs :-)

Hope all this lovely sunshine is helping you get properly on the mend Kim.

I've fallen in love with your beautiful embroidery, it's the prettiest thing!

Gardening in pyjamas is the best if you as me. I do love to do a bit of deadheading in my dressing gown too!

Hope you feel better soon.

Hi!

I have managed to be away from your blog for over a year and I've spent the last 4 days catching up. (I still have your roses decorating my computer and my tea cosy is in the kitchen where it is used frequently!)

I have been trying to find a copy of the by "I Capture the Castle" by Anne Tyler, but can only find the title by Dodie Smith. Is there any chance that this is the same book?

Internet searches and calls to book sellers have failed me.

I look forward to reading your blog daily now!

Hi Kim,
Hope you are feeling a lot better now...this beautiful sunshine seems to be staying for a while, so I hope you can enjoy it...
I've not been able to stay out of my garden so far this week...I've been pruning everything hard back...having only spent a few hours in our back garden all year last year...shrubs had grown far too big...I want things to be different this year and I intend making more 'me' time...starting with some serious gardening...
Hope all of your garden plans come to fruition too.
Take care,
Niki x

awwww look at your kitty in bed. My cat Tizz used to climb into bed and you'd see a round lump under the quilt, he always found the warmest spots. I would leave the airing cupboard door open for him. You've brought some wonderful memories back. I do hope spring has sprung!

Sorry you've not been well and that life isn't always rosy. It always sounds it! But of course we all have our troubles.

Still, at least it's spring.

Hope you're feeling better now. the sunshine helps doesn't it. It's so nice to think that all that awful weather is behind us now (well maybe!). Your cat is too cute for it's own good and I agree it feels good to get the children out of doors and enjoying the simple pleasures of grass between the toes.
