Bright 'n' breezy

Just one bad thing (and it is a very little thing) to say about all this sunshine - where did all this dust come from? Living in an old Victorian house is wonderful but it does have its drawbacks. I swear that it acts as some sort of dust magnet attracting dust from surrounding houses as well. This dust then somehow manages to overwinter in all the shadows and nooks and crannies until ... one day you open the bedroom curtains, the sun pours through and all is revealed!

First step was to take the rugs out into the garden for a good old airing. This rug is one I made a couple of years ago - I called it my "sweeties" rug, because the colours reminded me of boiled sweets , the kind I used to eat tons of when I was younger and I think are probably banned these days! Anyway out in the garden the rug stayed and I got to thinking how great it would be to have a flower bed with similar colours - probably dahlias would do it. The colours looked great against the green of the grass and the cats enjoyed spending the rest of the day lying on, having pulled it down to sunbathe on (You can see the cat in the corner eyeing it up as possible deckchair material).
The rug usually lives in our bedroom next to my side of the bed, nice and cosy ( and probably looks better on the white floorboards too).

After a very brief flirtation with some more housework, we went over to Rottingdean. Met some friends and had chips on the beach - delicious. The kids clambered over the rocks and we chatted and relaxed. It was good to feel the sea breeze again and to have some cobwebs of my own blown away!

Oh boy what a beautiful creation. I have a rag rugging workshop booked in August. Doubt a one day effort would produce a rug like this. Mary

Ahhhh chips on the beach! Sounds just like home! And the dust??? I think it comes from the beach, too, as I have a truckload full each day it seems. That rug is just stunning and I love the colors!

"Living in an old Victorian house"

Even though you tell us, that it attracts dust {-smile-}, it must be so wonderful to live there. Do you have lots of pictures of your house up, somewhere on your blog, maybe? :-)

Hope you daughter continues to get better!!! Yes!!!

The rag rug is beautiful, such lovely vibrant colours. Spring sunshine is very unforgiving isn't it? But so good to see - I always feel so much more energized when the sun shines.

Hi Kim,

The rug is beautiful, such a lot of work! One of my cats likes to pull washing off the airer and lie on it - particularly anything nice and white!!!

Yes I'm noticing more dust just lately - and cobwebs!

My paternal grandmother came from Rottingdean and my husband and I spent a holiday there with my parents, back in the 90s, when we traced a bit of family history. We found a few family members in the churchyard!

Hope you and your family have a wonderful Easter!

Lol, hubby and I had chips on the beach yesterday too!

Love the colours of your rug, and I know what you mean about the spring sunshine, I noticed that our living room windows are absolutely filthy!

Someone once told me that if you leave the dust it only gets so thick and then stays exactly the same, never getting any worse. I'm just not sure how long you have to wait to find out whether that's true or not!

Dahlias, roses, sweetpeas, cosmos, peonies ... the list is endless for your 'carpet' of flowers.

Ooooh, I'd love a chip!
