Cosies, posies, poppies and cats

My daughters are back at school. That first day back is hard for everyone - I remember that back to school feeling so well, especially hard after such a good holiday. I love the laziness and spontaneity that school holidays bring and I am lucky that I get to spend so much time with them.
Being outside and enjoying this wonderful weather with them was great and I also found that this sudden onset of new Spring life had inspired me so much that at times I kept seeing ideas for new tea cosies and corsages everywhere! I spent yesterday morning in the garden cutting up fabric and looking at the colours in the garden at the moment. Things are definitely changing and the colours are becoming more strident - our first poppy of the year has opened and look at that orange, isn't it marvellous!?

Right next to the poppy are these gorgeous purple stocks that our cat is posing beside - some time in the future I would love to make something with that purple and orange combination (not my usual choice but it has so much vitality and fun).

These white daisies (I can't remember the correct name for this plant) are really fun too.

The primroses are at their peak and I know they will probably start to fade over the next week or so. I decided to make something that captured a little of my spring garden and so spurred on by the peace and quiet and Radio 4 (yes, being alone again does have its perks) I made this little corsage ....

... and my Spring tea cosy (similar to the one I made last year with daffodils, but this time with daisies like the ones I have in my garden).
I will be putting both of them in my Etsy shop if anyone is interested.

Now can anyone tell me why cats are always ready to pose when a camera's around?

I like the 'latitude' that school holidays bring, too - no rush, no timetable, just do-as-you-please, and it makes a welcome change from a very busy term time.
Lovely pictures again!

Hi Kim
What a nice way to spend the day, enjoying the sunshine and the spring flowers.
We are still waiting for spring to arrive - can't be long now!

The corsage is so pretty. It's lovely to see all the spring flowers, is that a Welsh poppy? The first of mine has got a flower too, they vary from a lovely bright yellow to a soft orange - so bright and cheerful.

Hello Ragged Roses! I am interested in how you make your cosies. What method of rag rugging do you use, what do you use as your base fabric and what are they lined with? Hope you don't mind me asking. (A tutorial would be great)!

Ahhh, your projects are lovely, as usual. Love those corsages. As for cats...well, they just always have to be the center of attention. My little Scruff is the same way -- bring out the camera and there he is!

I agree a tutorial would be fantastic...another craft that I can learn!
Both the corsage and the tea cosie are just beautiful:-)

School holidays are always great ... the rambly days and spur-of-the-moment adventures or the lying around reading all day long.

The picture of the purple stocks made my day! I love those flowers especially with a beautiful cat posing alongside them. Cats always know how to show off their best side for the camera!

I have added you to my blog links.

Cats are funny creatures aren't they! Mine is the boss in this house. He looks like a lion and we treat him like the king of the jungle. Your garden is looking great! Wow ~ a poppy already! So nice that you had a wonderful school holiday and spring inspiration.

Your garden/flowers look lovely. Flowers in ours are a little thin on the ground (the previous owners were more the shrubs and grass type), but there are at least some forget-me-nots and bluebells!

Anyone reading this who is thinking of buying one of Kim's corsages should do so ... right now. Mine arrived yesterday and it's delightful!

Yellow and green is just the best together ! So glad you've had a lovely day, and what wonderful weather we've continued to have. I've taken full advantage of the kids being back at school and have visited the hairdressers twice this week ! (and yes I've had 2 totally different haircuts as well !!!!)

I'm so happy to have discovered your blog! Your photos are so pretty and inspiring and you are very talented as well. I love that rug you made and would love to someday attempt making my own (have gotten as far as buying a how-to book, hehe).

I think that the cosie in this post is my favourite so far - so pretty to come down to in the morning.

Thanks for commenting on the red shoes.... I love the daisy flowers. Are they called marguerites? We had to sow some seeds today because the Princess loves daisies so much... I hope they flower as well as yours have!

What beautiful flowers in your garden...it's not hard to see where your inspiration for that amazing tea cosy came from! I have the same little table in white.
I think cats just like to be where the action is, they love roaming about in the garden and they always take such good photos.
