Ring o' roses

This weekend seemed to be full of things to be ticked off lists, ferrying children to and fro, shopping, ferrying children to and fro, mammoth homework tasks, sorting out the computer, birthday invitations and, yes, ferrying children to and fro! Weather wise it was beautiful, unfortunately we were never all in the same place at once long enough to enjoy it. Two days of going round and round in circles.
However, I was able to snatch a few hours here and there over the past 3 or 4 days to make these rose corsages for my Etsy shop.
Sunday morning, the eldest had gone off to Springwatch it somewhere in the woods, my husband had gone off to the computer shop and my youngest decided, quite strangely for her, to just have a rest on the hammock (I think she was secretly psyching herself up for the big party in the afternoon, complete with real live snakes and spiders ) and read quietly .. BLISS!! Fabric, canvas and trimmings snatched hastily from the house and plonked on to the garden bench where I sat happily ragging for a while. Polka dots, ginghams, florals, lace and felt and pinking shears - perfect!!

Unfortunately no real gardening done - where does the time go? I noticed that the blackberry bushes are really growing now and we're looking forward to those later on in the year. I'd love some strawberries too, maybe next year ... Knowing just how much I love strawberries, the very talented Alison over at Foxgloves sent me some of these gorgeous strawberry pincushions last week as part of our swap. Aren't they gorgeous?

The very kind Clare over at Vintage Home ( a wonderful blog that always has the prettiest photos) sent me the lovely fabric in the background of this photo, together with some lovely ribbons to use in my corsages. Thank you too Clare, and, as you can see from the photos they have been put to good use!

Well the sun's out again and so I'm going to grab a few minutes in the garden before those girls come home!

Hi Kim,

Isn't it amazing where the time goes? I try to have two days off and spend more than half that time catching up on housework! Before I know it, I'm back to work and haven't even started the pleasurable things I had planned for my time off.

Your corsages are so pretty and just perfect for summer days.

Those are so lovely and cheery! Some of my best crafting time is spent during the few quiet moments I have to myself that I feel I have to "sneak"! Lovely colors in your corsages!!!

Your rose corsages are really pretty, such lovely fabrics and colours. Know what you mean about the ferrying - been there, done that, got the T-shirt! It was wonderful when the first one passed his driving test and I could say ' can you just take...' and, of course, as a new driver he jumped at any chance to use the car:)

I so know what you mean about time flying by. My days are over so quickly and I wish I had just a few more hours...You did actually garden but with fabrics. Your corsages are so pretty. Are you someone who sits enjoying the quiet while you work on crafts or do you listen to music?

Eton Mess! We've never tried it! Do you have a recipe? I'd love to try it this summer. =)

Many of the bottles of perfumes, etc we purchased in England now sport different labels than the ones we have at home, as it's been so long since any of us have made the trip over. I have a Culpeper Rose Water bottle that is flat and squarish with an ivory label with Harrod's green lettering (it looks very Victorianish) -- now I see the bottles look very modern.

I know what you mean about shuttleing the kids around! I don't remember it being quite that way~way back when. Glad you got some crafty time in. We have blackberries coming soon too :) I love to drive by them on the lawn mower and grab some to nibble on while I mow!

Don't they look lovely all together. Love the purple/lavender ones! I have to say that now I've bought all that thread I'm enjoying a wonderfully colourful time, too, and shall be quite sorry to see it go (although I'll be delighted if I sell some on Sunday!).

Still loving my corsage. It goes out with me every day!
