Finding the words ...

Oh my goodness, thank you all so much for the many, many lovely comments and New Year wishes on the post below! To say I was amazed would be an understatement ... thank you. Well, the two Rose sisters somehow, miraculously, chose a number and the winner is ... Lou! I really wish I could send you all a little something but the pennies are few and far between at the moment. Would it be okay if I sent you all my very best wishes and hopes for the New Year instead?

Am I the only one to be finding their homes unnervingly quiet at the moment? With the girls back at school and the excitement of Christmas and New Year behind us, it does seem as if the volume control has been turned down doesn't it? I think it's going to take a bit of getting used to, especially the very early morning starts - I'm predicting major fallout by the end of the week in this household ...

I have been slowly putting things away, tidying up and finding homes for new things and new homes for old things. Before Christmas I was the very, very lucky winner of a giveaway that the very lovely and talented Teena held on her gorgeous blog. The wonderfully bright postcards and beautiful bunting made from retro fabrics that now hangs above Little Sister's bed were in the parcel. Aren't they lovely? Their cheerful colours and designs have really brought a smile to my face these past few days.

Not only that, I also was lucky enough to receive this little pooch from her too. She's having a whale of a time (what a strange saying) in Little Sister's room but, between you and me, I shall try smuggling her out to join me in mine very soon. Thank you so much Teena, I really love them.

Along with the sorting and cleaning I've been thinking and dreaming. Dreaming of all things that I would like to happen this year ... I haven't made any resolutions but have made a mental note of things that I would like to happen over the next 12 months. There are a couple of things I would love to pursue and time seems to be a major prerequiste in order for this to happen. I have been reading a number of blogs over the past few weeks that have mentioned the need (not the desire) to cut back on blogging. I think, if I am going to be truthful with myself and all of you, then this is something I will need to do this year. One of the major things I need to learn is how to increase my self discipline and make productive use of my time. Life is enough of a juggle at the moment and I really need to find the balance. You might notice that I have not used the word "want" in connection with any of this - there is nothing I like more than to sit in front of my computer, cat on my lap, mug of tea in my hand and read all your blogs - but if I am to be realistic, the only way I can have a stab at making some of my dreams come true this year is to limit my time in cyberspace! I will continue to blog, I will continue to read your blogs and I will continue to allow comments as I've always maintained that it was the "conversation" aspect of blogging that appeals to me, I just may not be doing any of the above as much as I did. I really hope you understand, I do feel very bad about this and am very sorry to all of you who I haven't visited recently (and there are a lot of you), to all of you who have tagged me I'm sorry too. I have always loved blogging and I really don't want it to turn into something I feel guilty about because I don't always have the time to respond to all your lovely comments - I hope you understand. See you very soon - very soon I expect as I was never very good at sitting on my hands!
xxx

I've decided to add on this little bit - having reread the post and your comments, just want to stress that I'm NOT giving up blogging (I love it far too much for that!) I'm just going to see if I can resist its constant temptation, much like the tin of chocolates that's sitting in a corner in my kitchen calling me like a siren. Just like eating a few chocolates a day whilst standing up doesn't count, a few blogs a day shall be devoured. That way by the end of the week, the whole tin will be consumed! Once a blogaholic, always a blogaholic ...

It's the self-discipline bit! I find that blog world is like having an endless supply of my favourite magazines! Now, lunchtime over, I must log off.....although I might just pop over to.... VERY Best of luck with all your plans and dreams! Delighted that puppy is so settled! t.xx

I understand what you mean. I have limited myself to lunchtimes only and try not to automatically turn the computer on each day. I love reading blogs but I love making things too and I was getting out of balance.

I find the "follow this blog" tool useful for cutting hopping time - tells me when my fav's have been updated and yours is always the first to be read if its there :-)

Very best wishes to you too Kim. I think about stopping blogging from time to time but if I wasn't blogging I would probably spend much more time watching T.V, so I think I will continue to blog for a while longer yet. I hope that you have a happy and productive year.x

Really know how you're feeling. I'm definitely going to be cutting back on blogging this year. I need to spend the time creating and progressing my business. It's so difficult to get the balance right but I do find that blogging can take up way too much of my time. Time to log of and get back on with work again now. Good luck with all your dreams and plans for this year.

I'm sure many of us understand this need to discipline ourselves with regard to blogging - I certainly do, but it is so addictive!

Glad to hear you're not leaving blogging completely! I, too, have promised myself not to spend too much time at the computer. I can tell other bloggers have resolved to do the same, as it seems a bit quiet in blogland these days (a good thing I think)! =) hugs, Kim!

yep I know what you mean about posting because you feel like you owe it to your readers. Remember how you felt at the beginning of your blog journey and try and recapture some of that freedom!

ps. we leave you comments because we want to, not because we expect a reply!

Dear M..
I know we share the same cyberspace thoughts... as you know I am reluctantly cutting back on my blogging pleasures.. my derriere just cannot cope with it any longer..and I need to free myself to be more creative and pursue some exciting new projects this year!
'Less is more 'as they say and whatever and whenever you offer on your blog will be devoured with the same relish that it always has been by myself and many many more..
Just love your comment about standing up..!
Of course it doesn't matter.. just think of the calories you are burning getting out of the armchair!

WAIT! You spelled my name wrong -- there's no L, O, or U in my name! Oh well, congrats to Lou who is very lucky to be receiving a prize from YOU (which does have an O or U!)

Ah yes, the blog and time issue. It catches up to all of us, doesn't it? I'm working hard to catch up this week, and then I'm thinking I'll try to slow down a little too. I had a pretty good pace last fall -- maybe even a bit slower than that would be good. It's all just too much, isn't it? And I'm adding more for you 'cause I can't stop typing. Sorry.

Oh, but one more thing. That poodle in your first pic brought a big smile to me -- it looks just like the dog I grew up with!

It would be such a shame if blogging became a chore for everyone and I think we all understand exactly what you mean. Quality not quantity I reckon. Be lovely to catch up with you whenever you are around.
Look forward to seeing more of your lovely creations.

Once again, my mother got it right when she said 'moderation in all things' - so if you need to step back, you probably should. I'm glad that you're not going to disappear though!
See you once in a while!

Kim, I totally understand and I have cut back my blogging too. Don't worry about the quantity of blog posts. Your blog is always wonderful and it is like catching up with an old friend when I stop by. You know how you haven't seen a friend in awhile and you bump into them in the store. That's how I feel about reading a new post from you.

Hi Kim,

thanks for your message - I hope you have a wonderful 2009 too!

I have said many a time I would cut down my online time (and I have - when I was at uni I spent the majority of my free time online) but I just can't cut it out completely, like you I love it!

I find using bloglines helps me keep up with all the blogs I love and remembering I don't always have to blog each week or leave a comment on every post I read.

I hope you find the balance you're looking for xx

There do seem to be quite a lot of use who are contemplating cutting back on the blogging, Kim. It's the guilt thing again, isn't it? I should be ironing but I haven't replied to people who have commented on my blog so feel guilty!! I think I may make a new year's resolution to write new posts only once a month. I love reading your blog, though, as you write so well and post such good photos.

Blogaholic...I love that, Kim! And I'm feeling the same way, have since I began on this lovely bloggy journey. Your post is timely, as I have been thinking similar thought and writing a post very much in tune with that you're saying--less time online, more real life...more time for dreams, family, friends and other joys. :o) I'm glad you're not stopping Ragged Roses, for I love to visit you here. And look forward to times when you can post and refresh us with your sweet stories, dreamy photos and joy of life. Happy Days, my friend. See you around... :o) ((HUGS))

Happy new Year Kim. I wish you luck with finding that life balance. I always find it a bit of a struggle. As for blogs well ... have you come across this 'http://www.tartx.com/blog/?page_id=233' - it's about 'blogging without obligation'. You do write lovely posts though so I'm pleased you're not giving up. Best wishes xx

Happy New Year

Thanks for popping in - I know what you mean - I am a newbie but spend ages looking at other blogs - I guess I'm just really nosey !!

I do miss the days when I would come back from work on the top deck in winter - searching for houses with lights on but curtains still open just so I could peep into their lives !!

I just had to post another comment to say congratulations to your clever hubby! Grown Your Own is such a gorgeous and helpful book. So gorgeous in fact I've bought another copy for my best friend today! We're both very novice veg growers and I know she'll adore it. Please pass on how thoroughly impressed I am with it. A proper beautiful book!

It seems lots of us are feeling the same way Kim! I love reading blogs but it keeps me from doing creative things myself, and my spare time is so scarce that I've got to find a balance too. I've stopped writing my blog(temporarily), and now it's been so long I'm not sure whether to just delete the blog , I don't want to make some grand announcement(bit pompous) but I feel really rude just disappearing! Hope you can post occasionally, your posts are delightful.

Hi Kim, first of all I wish you and your family a very Happy New Year 2009. Regarding the blogging, we all have other commitments and it is physically impossible, with the hours we are given, to read and reply to all blogs. However lovely it is to have made many new friends, real life must take priority, no-one can live on fresh air alone! x

Hi Kim,
Congratulations on winning Teena's lovely puppy - she looks right at home with you.

I too appreciate how you feel and have also decided to cut back on time spent on my PC. Blogging is a lovely thing to do when there is a spare moment, but it can take over somewhat and its easy to forget that there is a 'real' world out there too.

Enjoy the time that you free-up!
I'll check in now and then to see if you have posted, but will also be checking that you haven't too! Ha!

Have a lovely weekend,
Niki x

Hi Kim, I so relate to the slight panic, on discovering 100+ comments on my blog! I have been trying to reply or visit each commenter, & it is a time consuming task. I do feel I owe everyone a reply, but my time is limited, & I am getting a bit stressed. Not good for a blog life!!!
Please post as you wish, & when it suits you, & don't stress about replies!

Hi Kim,

I share your sentiments, as I feel that I have less time to devote to following all those wonderful blogs. I am trying to visit those that I enjoy reading, but much less frequently than before, especially since I started working night shifts!

Good luck in achieving your goals for 2009 and Happy New Year!

I understand just what you mean about blogging, it's easy to let it take up more time than it should. More important to actually live life though:) I love the ballet dress in the bunting picture, it's a gorgeous colour. Hope your New Year dreams become reality.

I know just what you mean by being un nerved by the silence... lovely goodies. I wish you well and will continue to enjoy popping into see what your up to in 2009

Ohooo I so understand your thoughts Kim and fully appreciate your reasoning on slowing down on the olde Blogline, it is so addictive. I think a little slow down is on the cards for me too.

Mr. Poppins is up for redundancy yet again, we have been here twice before in only a few months so am not looking forward to the ride again, and yet have to feel positive and upbeat for the family

Glad you liked my Hearts and wishing you all the very best
