On the trail ...

Oh dear it's been almost a week since my last post, I think I was a bit premature when I said that I was on the mend. This thing has really lingered. I'm feeling much better than I did, but still very tired with a cold and cough that my oldest daughter seems to be sharing. Thank you all so much for your get well messages. A 'get well' to all of you who are suffering too at the moment, it's definitely lurgy time. A few more early nights are definitely needed and I seem to be craving oranges at the moment so I MUST remember to take those vitamin pills. Think I need a good old-fashioned tincture, like the one in the photo. well not exactly since this is full of bubble bath and originally contained quinine, which I'm sure I don't need at the moment.

Anyway, enough of me - meet the latest addition to the family. My daughter desperately wants a dog and if I'm honest I would love to have one. But with two highly strung cats who run away everytime anyone so much as knocks at the door, I think we'd be asking for trouble. So a bright red felt dog that sits neatly on a shelf, requires no walking and never woofs fits the bill perfectly. There are many things I love about Blogland, one of them being the way you can just sit at your computer following trails and suddenly stumble across the thing you've been looking for, quite unexpectedly it's there in front of you, waiting for you. Lovely Samantha had posted a couple of weeks back a photo of her little dog that she'd made for a birthday present for her son's friend. Gorgeous I thought, but I could never copy that without a pattern, and lo and behold, there followed one of those wonderful blogland trails that ended with the original post by Jenny and a pattern to use too. Thank you!!
Quite by chance last week I received an email from Cath Kidston (no not her personally, as if!!) with details of their Christmas stock with a link to a competition and pattern to make your very own Stanley dog. If my daughter could have any real life dog this would be the one she would choose. Knowing how clever you all are I'm sure one of you talented bloggers could come up with the winning Stanley - so here is my only little trail for you. Good luck and have fun! Let me know if you get to make any, it would be great to see a photo.

The two dogs in the black and white Cath Kidston postcard are adorable aren't they? The little dog tin is one of an ever expanding collection of old tins I seem to be gathering, I am turning into such a hoarder! The spaniel puppies are very cute but they do remind me of my headmistress' dog at secondary school. She would bring the dog into school every day and girls in the first year would have to walk the dog every lunchtime, it was either that or litter duty! Strange the associations Spaniels have for me ...
Anyway I'm off for another early night. Will be back soon with tales of big sister's birthday party, walks on the Downs and Tudor shenanigans!

I am sorry to hear you still are not feeling well. Make sure you still rest up this week as much as possible.

I love your red doggie! I had this pattern printed out to give it a try. I might try it after I get my autumn pincushions designed. I have 3 more to go. In the meantime, I will enjoy looking at yours. By the way, I always wanted a dog as a child and never got one. We hope to get our first dog at the beginning of 2008. I will keep hoping for your daughter too. ;)

hope you start to feel fully recovered soon, thanks for the great pattern links, something tells me we might be doing lots of sewing this half term.

Hope you get back to normal soon - get swigging that orange juice!! The Scottie is fab. We finally caved in to the years of pressure and got Bodie in July - it was the best thing we ever did. We didn't have cats though! A friend of mine has a Newfoundland that gets on really well with her cats and chickens, so it can be done ;-)

Don't these things hang around forever! I hope you are feeling much better soon. My daughter has been pestering me for a rabbit or a guinea pig - we have a cat and that's hard enough!! Maybe a goldfish.......

Gosh you have just reminded me of the dogs at our school - Miss Renee's poodle and Honey the caretakers lab.

Oh me too! I'm so tired of my allergies I want to scream or run away to somewhere I am not allergic to everything. Is there such a place. Hope you're feeling better soon. I think an orange sounds good. I'm off to the store.

Very cute little scottie Kim! I love the red and blue. Rest up! You need to get well for comfort food season -- you know what that means -- um...no, I just can't say it, that would be too cruel when you're not feeling well. LOL. Get Better Real Soon!!! XOXO

re. Miss Renee's poodle: We were 11 years old and Miss Renee seemed ancient, she was one of the "old school" teachers who still lived in. She would walk her poodle during break and lunch time and was a terrifying old battle axe. Nobody dared go near the poodle as it was yappy and snappy, wouldn't be allowed these days. As for the caretakers dog Honey, everyone adored her and we were all heart broken when she died. In hindsight we probably contributed to her death by feeding her bits of cake and stuff, she was rather over wieght. It was announced in assembly and there wasn't a dry eye in the house. Two days later our Head Mistress had to have a word with the school about contolling grief! In fact as I remember it the school was more distraught about the loss of Honey than when the Head Girl and Head Boy were killed in a car crash a few months later.

Stanley is an adorable little doggie! I'd love a dog too but can't have one right now. In the meantime I have a little stuffed dog named Beasley. Glad you're on the mend, Kim, but don't try to do too much too soon! ~ hugs, Lynda xo

I wondered whether the virus you had was still lingering when you didn't post, hope the remaining cough and cold clear up quickly - it isn't the greatest start to the winter months is it?
Your little felt dog is cute - I've had a couple of the real things in my life, as a child I had a Scottsh terrier and when the children were young MacIntosh the Scottie was also the first of our line of family dogs - they are great characters:)

Hope you are feeling better. The worst thing about winter is the bugs that go around.

Love that apothecary bottle. Do you feel magical when you are pouring your bubble bath?

The dogs are sweet too. awww!

Hi Kim,
Hope you are feeling better today. Did you enjoy ratatouille? We thought it was great fun, although not good if you don't like rats as they were pretty realistic.. esp the group scenes.
I love the trails blogging brings.. i'm off to follow yours now!
take care
