A Cosy Corner

Well that'll teach me to go harping on about Spring ... it's freezing! Back to grey skies, warm woollies and blazing fires. Doesn't sound too bad really.
So instead of posting photos of early blooms, I thought I'd show you a glimpse of our bedroom.
I'm having one of those days when all I can think of is going back to bed, hence, perhaps, the choice of room. I went with my daughter to collect our French exchange student at gone midnight last night and then couldn't fall asleep until the wee small hours. My dreams of waking early, laying the breakfast table and presenting our guest with warm croissants, hot chocolate and fresh blooms on the table went out of the window! There's always tomorrow...

We've yet to decide on a paint colour in this room so it's white again for the moment. We need something that retains the light as it is such a naturally bright room and has a very calm feel to it. Any suggestions? We pulled up the old blue carpet that we inherited when we moved in and it has really improved the room, without making it feel cold.

I love floral prints and eiderdowns, the old ones with holes in that leave feather trails are used in the garden in the summer, not sure who enjoys them most - us or the cats. The girls have some in their rooms and love snuggling under them at bedtime.

Talking of cats, this one seems to have the right idea ...

Hi Kim

I have the same bedspread as you - and a very similar black cat!

I also love the old eiderdowns and quilts, especially the floral ones. I have collected quite a few over the years. The only trouble is I have to regularly buy such things for my shop - and then of course I want to keep them!!!

Your bedroom looks lovely as it is - but if you are thinking of repainting how about a soft crocus or very pale green?

Your blog is charming. I love the title as I love blown blooms barely past their prime. I have recently left the corporate world to persue the life of a homebody. Two months ago I launched two separate blogs, and it IS hard work. Surprisingly not so much for the actual writing, but the maddeningly technical stuff and the slow improvements to the quality of my photos. That frustrates the most. But as you move forward, you will see it becomes easier. Look at it as learning a new job; practice makes it rote and will gain you greater confidence. You have a lot to say, but you just don't know it yet. I, like Clare, also have "a very similar black cat." They know how to live. Good luck.

My goodness, I'll have to show Stephen a photograh of your tidy bedroom and tell him that's how I would like ours to be!

Your bedroom is lovely and so tidy!
I am a big fan of Farrow and Ball paints - if you choose the right shade for a room and the light suits the chosen shade you could not achieve anything better.
LOVE your cat - looks well loved and very cosy x

Thanks for all the lovely comments about the room - I must say I cannot take any praise for the tidiness of it. Our visiting French student was the reason behind the blitz on the house and no doubt within a few days things will start falling out of cupboards, drawers will be left open and clothes, books and toys will be strewn across the floor. it's nice while it lasts!

What a lovely room! It shouts "spring" even if the weather outside the window says something different! And your cat looks quite content. My cat's favorite spot is right on top of my pillow, as we have a skylight over our bed (she follows the sunshine around the bed)!

I have to say that I like the room white, it looks perfect as it is. My bedroom is white with cream and dark red introduced via a rug and paisley eiderdown and other things. It is so easy to change the colour scheme if the walls are white too. Enjoy your time with the French student.

What a pretty room, it does look lovely as it is. And so tidy....my bedroom would stay that tidy if it weren't for Dear Husband...he does try but never to my standards! Currently in my pretty bedroom, next to my Vintage style books and Louis style bedside cabinet, is HIS video "CHOPPER" certificate 18, a violent comedy apparantly if you can have such a thing! I'm fighting a losing battle....

Your bedroom has a very serene, tranquil feel to it, I agree with clare that soft crocus or a soft sage green would look nice. Your cat looks incredibly comfortable and slightly miffed at being disturbed by someone taking his photograph! I,too, made the mistake of going on about spring, I think we'd both better keep quiet on the subject when and if it turns nice again:)

I think that the weather has been very rude indeed, to ruin our lovely spring blogging. It has been very silly here today - giant hailstones and a bright blue sky and turquoise sea. Hope to see your little spring blooms soon. p.s I like the thought of pale green or perhaps a pretty powdery pink.

Hi Kim

Barmy weather, I love it really - Oh how I wish for a bedroom like yours. Ours is always full of boxes which have stuff in!

This is so timely for me. I've been wondering what I'm going to do in our bedroom once we get moved. I so love white walls, I'll be leaving ours that way, actually they are off-white. I especially like your painted floor. Ours will have hardwood floors, darker in color, so I'll use light rugs. I adore the look of your room and the way you have it arranged. Your post is very inspirational for me. Hope you catch up on your rest. xoxo

Love your bedroom. If only my fiance would allow florals in the bedroom! I'll just have to stick with checks and stripes just now.
You're blog just gets more and more delightful.
