May your treetops glisten & your children listen ...

It's Friday again, surely not! What happens to all those days in between? I'm guessing we're all chasing our tails right now, I'm feeling a bit like one of those hamsters in a wheel, running round and round and round in circles. Not only has this week whizzed by, it's been so so so cold. So cold and no snow - can't help feeling a bit cheated. With the promise of snow last weekend and Little Sister putting us all on constant sledge alert, all we've done this week is shiver. No snowballs. no snowmen, no pretty Narnia like gardens to greet us in the morning, just cold with nothing to show for it!

I went to buy some doughnuts the other day from the baker and couldn't open my purse, my fingers were so numb. (Yes that's me in the photo looking marvellously attractive as I face the elements with my terrier under one arm, vintage tartan blanket over my knees and snow covered trees whizzing past behind me) It's been the kind of weather where you just want to be holed up at home, hands tightly wrapped around a mug of hot chocolate and at least two cats and a blanket on your lap! I would have added yet another eiderdown to my bed too, if I hadn't been put off by the thought that my legs would just crumble under the weight of them all - poor old Mr Roses... I hope we get a couple of days of snow over the holidays - a White Christmas for once, wouldn't that be lovely.

When I was little, watching "White Christmas" was as much part of Christmas as Turkey, presents and Morecambe & Wise. It seemed to be always on BBC 2 and I loved it!! I'm going to try and get a copy for my girls to watch as we always seem to miss it when it's on. I think I always cried too . So all this snow wishing led me to make another nostalgic lavender sachet to put in my Etsy shop. I wonder if I put one under my pillow and wish very hard, the snow might come ...

A very big "thank you" to everybody who has been buying sachets and pillows from my shop recently. I am very grateful and happy and building up a nice little relationship with the lady at the Post office!

Not only is it the end of another week, but also another month is drawing to its close - it can't be December next week, how did that happen? If, like me, you are not particularly organised in the Christmas preparations dept and the thought of making an advent calendar rather than buying one seems just like one thing too many, have a look here at my cheat's, no sew Advent. Is it really a year ago that I wrote that? Oh how i love blogging, being able to look back and see exactly what you were up to at any given time of the year - and, in my case, it seems I'm still just as disorganised ...

Have a great weekend and if you see any of them snowflakes, blow them over here please!

Oh how I love White Christmas! I was looking at it last night and wondering whether to watch it, but I thought that I would save it for closer to Christmas.

I remember all those Christmas specials on television too ~ Morecambe & Wise was always on our list ~ and all the old films that they showed every year.

Christmas just isn't the same here in Canada ~ everyone is so politically correct that they are afraid to wish people a Merry Christmas in case it causes offence! And as for the television, well, it is just like any other day. We have to stock up on lots of DVDs if we want anything to watch.

White Christmas is one of my favourites I have it on DVD because these days if the Beeb bother to show it I'm always doing something else.

I'll blow the snowflakes over there if you blow any you get back to me ? We've already started watching Christmas films , kiddie ones like Home Alone and the Santa Claus films. It's freezing here too, we had a lovely coating of frost this morning.

...I think there is a wonderful line from Chandler in 'Friends' when Monica describes her ideal future with a little house and a picket fence and children playing on the street...chandler says 'you dont want ot live out of town ...you want to live in the 1950's'
but I can see the attraction, everything looked much nicer, an innocent time when the world didn't seem as full of want and greed..things were slower and people seemed to enjoy life so much more...I bet they didnt have stressed out teenaagers like we do...ooops what started as a jolly post has got a little soap box...have a lovely weekend ...think I will have cocoa when I get home.... tuck the cat under my arm and fix a bracing expression on my face....

It's good to know that other people feel as disorganised as me in the run-up to Christmas! But, d'you know what? It wouldn't feel right if everything was sorted, presents bought, cards written and lists ticked off .... it just wouldn't be Christmas without that last minute wrapping session, would it?!

Anyway, loving your festive crafts - and I'm sending for White Christmas too, as we always seem to miss it! Fingers crossed for snow!

Such pretty tins, Kim...and how marvelous your portrait is on one of them! ;o) Christmas is coming to your house...LOVE that button wreath. Since we'll be away much of Christmas we'll not do a tree this year, but I will decorate with some lights and candles this weekend. Must have some festivity! Happy days as you make ready... :O) ((HUGS))

Hi Kim! We had a beautiful Winter Wonderland here last weekend and they promise snow flurries this weekend too. I hope they keep their promise.

Time is passing for us too as we are so busy with redoing things in our home. Now I am exercising my patience as we have to wait longer than expected for our kitchen doors to come back.

I have the video of White Christmas and it is a favorite of mine. I love all the old films with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend. Drink lots of hot cocoa to keep yourselves warm!

Hugs ~

I always knew you were related to Grace Kelly..how do you manage to look so glam in those sub zero temps without a red nose and watery eyes... is that terrier really a hot water bottle case in disguise?
If you do see a snow flake please could you divide it and send me half.. it is better than nothing!

Well, we have no snow in Edinburgh but we have thick frost, which we have to scrape off the car. Hmm. I'm off to a Christmas fair to try to get myself into festive mood but reading your blog has set me off in the right frame of mind. Lots of pretty things.

I hope you get your white Christmas! It's an absolutely gorgeous day here. It finally looks like fall. Leaves needing to be raked and temperatures in the 60's. I haven't had a white Christmas since I lived in Germany many, many years ago! Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Kim...It's remarkable how quickly this year seems to have passed isn't it?
I tried to hit the high street today, but so had everyone else, so I turned around and came straight back home again...I cannot fathom how some people actually enjoy that kind of shopping...I think I shall have to hit the www and etsy stores instead!
Enjoy your weekend,

Hmmmmmmmmm - that is really me in the photo with the terrier under my arm, sorry!
No snow here, and not likely to be unless a freak weather systerm blows in. It's a lovely mild, albeit damp day. A good day for putting up the tree in the chicken yard.
I love your easy-do advent calendar and may steal the idea this afternoon!

Oh my, you're looking so dashing in your tartan with your adorable new puppy LOL! I love the snow too, but not quite just yet -- I'm not ready and we got a few inches yesterday. It's all melted now, but next time it will probably stick!

Hi Kim, I have been here before goodness knows what happened to my comment!
It has been cold, but nice. I do not mind the cold so long as it is not wet. Mr N said snow is forcast for the weekend, fingers crossed. When we wre little we seemed to get snow every winter, sun in the summer and lots of rain in March, remember how we always knew what the weather was going to be like, not any more.
If it does snow I will be thinking of your lovely girls and the sledging fun, do you go to the Downs?
Take care and big hugs,
Carol xxx

Hi Kim. Love the idea of the girls on constant sledge alert. It brings back poignant memories for me as my son and daughter were each given a sledge in the early 1990 and it didn't snow in the Lake District for 5 years. I felt so sorry for them watching from the window every year in vain hope of a few flakes. However as our garden is on a slope the sledges weren't wasted and we had a succession of years when, frost-sledging, mud-sledging and even hailstone-sledging were possible. It made a horrble mess but at least we got our money's worth from the sledges! Fingers crossed the sisters get a covering of white overnight, the forecast is hopeful! Stay warm, Eli...flutterbypatch.typepad.co.uk
