Away above the chimney tops...

So it seems that the good old rain timer has been set again to its twice daily "let's coincide with the school run to make things as miserable as possible" setting. Between 8.30am and 9am you can guarantee a downpour and similarly at 3pm.

I quite like walking in the rain, in many ways I prefer walking in it to driving in it. Little Sister is of a very different opinion and the journey home, up and down two hills and those 120 "secret steps" along the "Cat's creep" leading up to our house can feel like a marathon at the beginning or end of a school day when your shoes are squelching, your school bag and entire contents are soaked and your umbrella has once again folded in on itself...

However, there are moments like today, when I looked up to the sky, and found a multi coloured smile shining back at me through the grey clouds. Not just one but two (if you look very closely there were two rainbows waiting for me today). Not only did it work its magic on me but a very happy Little Sister was waiting for me at the school gates. Having spied the rainbows through the classroom windows, she pronounced categorically that the rainbow definitely ended in the school playground, I'm not sure if they will be spending the rest of the week scouring the playground for pots of gold but it certainly made the walk home a little cheerier.

Hi Kim, what a lovely rainbow! You are so right about the 9am and 3pm downpour. That always happened when my 2 were at primary school, the parents would have nowhere to shelter on the playground!
It also happens to me at the hairdressers, no matter the season, it's always raining when I walk out!Have a lovely week!

Hello Kim
I hope that you are well.
Your post reminded me of a rainbow Miss P & I saw last week. After admiring it, she said: The pot of Gold at the end of the rainbow, it doesn't really excist does it. It's just a myth...I felt disappointed for her. She is at the age when some of the things they have believed in for so long are no longer believed.

So true!It ALWAYS starts raining the minute we step out with Bella for her morning walk...and magically stops when we arrive back at the house.
I always 'ooh' and 'aah' when I see a rainbow...one of natures little miracles.Great pics!

Well done for finding some magic in amongst the rain. I often wonder how it is that the rain is always perfectly timed for school pick-up/drop off time, it seems to be a country-wide phenomenen.

We have an area of woodland in Bath called Rainbow Woods, and in the right weather conditions it always delivers those magical arcs of colour. I never quite manage to get there in time with my bucket and spade to find the end of it. One day!

Lovely photo of the rainbows. They're not that easy to capture are they.

Hi, Kim! I've always loved the magic of rainbows! :o) And your photos really cheer... It's been gray, dull, rainy and cold here for 3 weeks.. I think I'm going mad for all the rain tiddling down. Thank goodness for crafting and Christmas preparations which distract from the miserable weather--LOL! Hope you all are keeping dry and happy :o) ((HUGS))

I like walking in the rain with a stout umbrella. But I so remember the trailing-home-from-school thing - wishing that by some miracle my mum would decide to come and collect me...

Hi Kim, what a happy post! I like to think that is my view also.
We are having many electrical storms, which often have rainbows,,, or bushfires...

D'you know, rainbows still give me a thrill even now at my ripe old age. My eldest is ecstatic when she sees one. I'm not surprised this one cheered a rainy day - it's complete - a proper 'bow' of rain. Gorgeous.

Rainbows are lovely aren't they? I always look for them if there is sunshine and rain together. Happily the school run is no longer part of my days so I don't have to venture out if I don't want to:)
